ISLAMABAD -- Federal Minister for Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh on Saturday said the budgetary measures were aimed at bringing economic stability with proper management and mobilization of resources, people's welfare with targeted subsidies and elimination of Special Excise Tax on around 100 items. He was addressing a post budget 2011-12 press conference 2011-12 here. He was flanked by Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Dr Nadeem ul Haq, Secretary Finance Dr Waqar Masood, Secretary Planning Division Sohail Ahmed, Secretary Information Azmat Taimur Usman, FBR Chairman Salman Siddique and senior government officials. The Finance Minister said that the economy had shown resilience despite severe challenges, including floods, security situation, energy shortages, rising oil and commodity prices and high interest rates.
